Education Kits » LEOK-3 Optics Education Kit
The LEOK-3 optics experiment kit is developed for general physics education in universities and colleges. This kit provides complete set of optical and mechanical components (including light sources), which can be conveniently assembled to construct experimental setups. Almost all optics experiments required in general physics education (e.g. geometrical, physical, and modern optics) can be constructed in sequence using these components. Through selecting and assembling individual components into whole setups by students themselves, their experimental skills and problem solving ability can be greatly enhanced. The effectiveness of teaching and learning will be much better than those of using completing equipments. As examples, the following experiments can be setup. It is evident that much more experiments may be figured out using this kit.
1. Lens Measurements:
- Understanding and verifying lens equation and optical rays transform.
- Measuring focal length of positive lens by use of self-alignment method and displacement method respectively.
- Measuring focal length of eyepiece lens.
- Measuring nodal locations and focal lengths of a lens-group.
2. Optical Instruments:
- Understanding working principle and operation method of common lab optical instruments.
- Assembling microscope, telescope, and slide projector, evaluating their magnification power.
- Assembling telescope with erect images using double right prisms and positive lenses, analyzing the merits for using right prisms.
- Assembling spectrometers by respectively using prism and grating, and comparing their properties of the two types of spectrometers.
3. Interference Phenomena:
- Understanding interference theory, observing various interference patterns generated by different sources, and grasping one precise measurement methods based on optical interference.
- Observing interference phenomena and measuring light source wavelength with Young's double-slit, double-edge prism, double mirrors, and Lloyd's mirror, respectively.
- Calculating surface curvature by measuring interference fringe of Newton Ring.
- Measure air refractive index by assembling Michelson interferometer.
4. Diffraction Phenomena:
- Understanding diffraction effects, observing various diffraction patterns generated by different apertures.
- Observing Franhoffer and Fresnel diffraction phenomena and measuring aperture size of single silt or single circular hole.
5. Analysis of Polarization:
- Observing polarization phenomena, generating and analyzing various polarization statuses of light beams.
6. Fourier Optics and Holography:
- Understanding principles of advanced optics and their applications.
- Setting up optical system for recording and reconstructing holograms, making holographic gratings.
- Experimental verification of Abbe imaging principle and optical spatial filtering.
- Pseudo-color encoding using 3-directional gratings and theta modulation and color composition.
